The province hopes funding from their new budget will help push a local project toward completion.

Alberta’s government is investing $789.4-million into provincial roads and bridges and will see the completion of several projects this year, including the Highway 15 bridge and twinning project in Fort Saskatchewan.

Approximately eight kilometres of the highway is being twinned in addition to the new bridge crossing. The federal government chipped in $45.3-million for the bridge, and the province contributed $62.7-million.

Construction began in August 2019 and is to be completed in the fall.

“We are building and maintaining the important infrastructure that makes Alberta a strong and vibrant place to live, raise a family and grow a business,” stated transport minister Rajan Sawhney.

Additionally, $597-million from the provincial budget will go toward extending the lifespan of critical highway infrastructure; 75 projects are to be completed in central Alberta, which will include bridge constriction, bridge deck joint replacements, and repaving highways.
