A man suspected of violently attacking a woman in Fort Saskatchewan has been arrested after being on the run for a week.

RCMP say Jason Hipson was arrested Friday (May 27) evening without incident near a gas station on Palisades way in Sherwood Park. 

An arrest warrant was issued on May 20 for the 45-year-old Fort Saskatchewan man; Hipson is said to have held a woman captive in her home for multiple hours while violently assaulting her. The victim, in her early 50s, was taken to hospital with severe injuries to her entire body as a result of the attack.

He has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, and theft of a motor vehicle. Following the arrest, he was transported to the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP detachment, where he will be held Judicial Interim Release Hearing to determine his release.

Hipson was convicted of several offences between 2005 and 2007 in Nova Scotia, including robbery, sexual interference and sexual assault.
