The Fort Lions are preparing the wading pool for the summer season.

The wading pool, located on 104 StreetĀ opposite Below Ten, has been in operation since the early 1960s. Open in July and August; the pool is designed for children eight and under to cool off from the sun, free of charge.

The pool opens later in the summer due to its staff being made up of students. July and August are also the biggest months of the year when people are looking for ways to cool off.

"There's a lot of people in the downtown area that can't make it out to the spray park," said Don Westman, treasurer of the Lions. "And so it really fills an excellent need in that part of town, and we're quite proud of that."

The pool is being prepared now, with an opening date expected for early July.
