Swimmers in Sherwood Park will have to look for another water hole this summer.

From Jun. 28 to Aug. 5, Emerald Hills Leisure Centre will close while crews work to install a new system to address leaks in the kid's pool.

The leisure centre discovered leaks in the kid's pool area after it was re-filled following COVID-19 shutdowns. All pools in the centre will be inspected for possible future pool leaks/closures during the closure.

"Summer is the optimal time for the necessary closure, based on lower swim lesson registration and minimal impact on school programming," the County explained.

The timing also coincides with construction on the Leisure Centre's second floor, including installing an elevator. Improvements to the women's changeroom are also underway, as well as maintenance on the movable floor in the 'teach' pool.

The repairs are scheduled to be completed before fall swim lesson registration on Aug. 23.

Arrangements are being made at nearby pools for those looking to get their swim on, and reactional swimming and fitness will still be available at Millennium Place. The Kinsmen Leisure Centre will expand its swimming lesson availability to accommodate swimmers.

Two spray parks and six spray decks are also available as summer recreation options over the closure period.
