On Monday (May 30), the Redwater RCMP conducted a joint operation patrol and traffic stop.

RCMP from Redwater, peace officers from Sturgeon County and Thorhild County, and Alberta Sheriffs from Lac La Biche and Ardrossan teamed up for traffic safety along Highway 63 and Highway 28.

“With ever-increasing traffic volumes, Highways 63 and 28 have seen their fair share of serious and fatal collisions,” said Redwater RCMP detachment commander Sergeant Jeff Sehn.

In total 17 officers participated, issuing 63 provincial violation tickets and 280 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests.

Police say they are pleased to report that no impaired drivers were detected during the initiative.

“Small changes in driving behaviour, including compliance with speed, distracted driving, seat belts and impaired driving, can have dramatic effects on the safety of our roadways,” added Sehn.

More joint force operations will take place over the summer.
