The Fort Saskatchewan Rotary Club is organizing a bed build in partnership with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) organization.

The build is happening on June 11, and volunteers can sign up for multiple positions to help build beds for kids in need.

According to SHP, approximately two per cent of children in Canadian communities sleep on the floor or in their parents' beds.

"It's very easy. We need individuals that can help us with the cutting and just putting [things] together. Just coming out and helping us assemble some of these beds so they can go out to deserving kids," said Lauren Zumbusch, the Rotary Club secretary.

In conjunction with the bed build event, the Rotary Club is currently running a bedding drive.

You can donate bedding at the Lakeview Inn & Suites in Fort Saskatchewan. Donations will be accepted until June 10.

"The goal is that each child, when they receive a bed, they also have a nice cosy bedding set to go along with that," added Zumbusch.

The build process will be led by people from SHP and members of the Rotary Club. Volunteers are not required to stay during the whole event, just when they are available.

Information on various volunteer positions and event details can be found on the club's Facebook page.

The goal of the bed build is to complete 15 beds to go out to kids in need.
