Two long years ago, the Legacy Park Family Festival was put on hold due to COVID-19.
The times of bounce castles and balloon swords became nothing more than a memory. That is, until this year.
The Family Festival came back full force, with one-man bands, a portable video game room, and the return of the almighty sheep. Although the weather was overcast and windy, it didn't stop the spirit of Fort Saskatchewan from bringing sunshine to Legacy Park.
Alongside the food trucks and live music was an immense set of booths which ranged from local art galleries to a crash course on building bird houses. Even yours truly, along with FortSaskOnline's newest intern Hannah Cronin had a booth where we handed out candy and signed people up for a chance to win a 2022 Dodge Ram Big Horn (you can still enter by going here).
There were tons of activities for kids too, such as the famous petting zoo and a tackle wheel supplied by the Fort Falcons Football team.
The booths, the good food, and the amazing music made for a spectacular event, but the cherry on top, the fan-favourite, was the mini parade and return of the Fort Saskatchewan grass grazers themselves, the sheep. Lilly and Emma, age 11, said their favourite part of the festival was being able to see the sheep again.
"Being with my family and doing stuff," was third-grader Shaun's favourite part of the festival.
The Family Festival was a great start to the summer. For those who missed out on the sheep's return, you can still find them in the field behind the Old Fort.
