Canada Day festivities are officially back in Fort Saskatchewan.
One of the city’s biggest parties is returning as a live and in-person event in 2022. The last two years have seen virtual and modified Canada Day celebrations; however, this year promises all of the usual favourites.
Here’s what you can expect to see:
Canada Day Pancake Breakfast

The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department and Dow employees will volunteer their time to cook and serve at the Canada Day Pancake Breakfast. People are encouraged to donate to the fire department’s boot drive during the event as they are collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Society.
You can find the pancake breakfast at the Fort Saskatchewan Legion parking lot from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Canada Day Parade

Beginning at 11 a.m., the parade is estimated to last an hour and feature close to 100 groups or organizations.
Here is the official parade route:
- Begin northbound on 96 Avenue
- The parade will make a turn eastbound on 102 Street and 99 Avenue
- It will then veer left on 108 Street to continue northbound
- Next, the parade will turn right onto 101 Avenue to continue westbound before turning left to go southbound on 101 Street
- After continuing southbound down 101 Street, the parade route will conclude back near the start at 96 Avenue
Canada Day Activities
A fun afternoon of festivities will follow the opening ceremony at 1 p.m. in Legacy Park.
Caricature artists, face painting and glitter tattoos, inflatables, human foosball, and a video game trailer are all offerings you’ll be able to find on Canada Day. This year's featured activity will be a “Ninja Warrior” obstacle course for those who wish to test out their agility skills.
Attendees will want to purchase a $5 wristband to enjoy all the activities.
There also will be a 20-foot Canada Day mural that festival-goers can colour on.
The Fort Heritage Precinct will provide free guided tours of the North-West Mounted Police Fort and Historical Village from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
As is tradition, the Fort Saskatchewan Farmers' Market will host a special Canada Day market from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the CN Station parking lot next to Legacy Park.
St. George’s Church will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, pie, and coffee from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in addition to hosting a bake sale inside.
A variety of food trucks will also be available on-site.
Entertainment
Afternoon entertainment from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Legacy Park bandshell will feature the musical stylings of Steven Sware, Harold Reichstein, David Unsworth and band, and Rachel Gleddie. The evening entertainment, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature Hailey Benedict, Nice horse and The Strumbellas.
Fireworks
The day will end with a firework show immediately after the evening concert at the Rotary Amphitheatre in Peter T. Ream Park at 10:45 p.m.
Transit in town will be free on Canada Day thanks to event sponsor, MEGlobal.
Due to a lack of volunteer support, there will be no Canada Car Show and Shine this year.
