Fort Saskatchewan’s Canada Day concert will feature a major name in the music industry.
This year's headliner is the internationally acclaimed Toronto-based rock band, The Strumbellas. Formed in 2008, the band gained international attention in 2016 for their single, Spirits, which topped the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and earned them a JUNO award for Single of the Year. Spirits has since been 3x certified platinum in Canada and Italy.
The Strumbellas have spent much of their time on the road, performing at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Governor's Ball, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and more. They have also performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
"It's going to be extra special," said Josh Gennings, Shell Theatre supervisor.
"Our Canada Day is rated one of the highest ones across the nation because we have an amazing community that supports it."
Hailey Benedict, a five-time North American Country Music Association International Youth winner, including Most Promising Female Entertainer & Songwriter, will be the opening act for the evening show.
Following Benedict will be the much-buzzed-about Alberta-based country band, Nice Horse. The all-female act has toured as support for huge names, including Tom Cochrane and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Nice Horse has also been found at high-profile festivals, including Big Valley Jamboree and the Calgary Stampede.
The evening entertainment kicks off at 7 p.m. after an exciting day of activities for all ages in Legacy Park. The concert is free to attend.
The fireworks show is provided and produced by Fireworks Spectacular. Fireworks will start at 10:45 p.m. at the Rotary Amphitheatre (behind the Northwest Mounted Police Fort).
