A Fort Saskatchewan High School teacher was awarded the Metro Athletics Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year for Division 4.

Kory Wlos looks after nearly every aspect of physical education at the school from classes to teams.

"[I'm] happy but I felt that it's actually a team award," said Wlos.

This is his second time winning a Coach of the Year award from Metro Athletics.

“Sometimes we have kids that come in that never played high level competitive volleyball and then all of a sudden I ask them to go in certain situations and they do well.”

The Sting boys volleyball team lost in the semi final round of the league this year, exceeding expectations.

“As a coach it feels great that you can get across to these players and hopefully they have success.”

Wlos played volleyball at a high level at Red Deer College, now known as Red Deer Polytechnic and at Medicine Hat College.

He has worked at Fort Saskatchewan High School for close to 20 years.
