Sarah Rabby has been named the valedictorian for this year's graduating class from Archbishop Jordan High School in Sherwood Park.

The 17-year-old is graduating with about a 98 per cent average in all of classes. A good portion of those classes were during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s been really like an immense honour. It’s been kind of up in the air, I didn’t even know if we would get a grad ceremony and so to be able to represent my class and to be able to kind of speak to us and our experience, and to thank everyone who has helped us along the way was really meaningful to me.”

Rabby will be attending the University of Alberta to take biomedical engineering.

“I have big dreams and ambitions. I’m hoping to go into engineering and then med school. I want to leave the world better than I found it.”

The grad theme for Archbishop Jordan this year was ‘tonight is the night’ and Rabby said that really summed up how her class felt about their high school experience and the challenges they faced.

“It feels kind of like we made it now.”

During her time in high school she was apart of student council and hopes to join the engineering society at the U of A.

Rabby gave some advice to aspiring valedictorians.

“Be curious, ask lots of questions, and surround yourself with driven, kind people. Use your stubbornness for good. Don't be afraid to dream big, work hard, and chase your ambitions.”
