51 Avenue in Bruderheim has been renamed after hometown Olympic star Emerance Maschmeyer.
The new Emerance Way was unveiled as part of the town's Canada Day celebrations.
"I grew up in a big hockey family. I have four siblings that also play hockey. My dad grew up playing, and my mom loves it." Maschmeyer said.
Emerance played in the Fort Saskatchewan boys hockey league from Atom AA to Midget AAA before attending Harvard Law School where she received a degree in sociology and a minor in economics.
After graduating from university, she was a first-round pick of the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.
Maschmeyer was named Most Valuable Goaltender for the 2016 Women's World's Hockey Championship.
It wasn't long after, she was given the opportunity to represent her country in the Beijing 2022 Olympics, where she and her teammates earned gold.
Maschmeyer allowed just one goal on 23 shots in her preliminary wins against Russia and Sweden.
"It's something I dreamt of as a young girl. To actually step foot in the village and on the grounds, was an incredible feeling. Then to be able to come home with a gold medal to share with family and friends, there's nothing like it."
Emerance Way is also the street that features the Karol Maschmeyer Arena, which was named after Emerance's grandmother in 2017.
A bench on the street dubs Maschmeyer as Bruderheim's 'Golden Girl'.
"Anyone can achieve their dreams if you put the work in, dedicate yourself, and have fun while doing it."
The Maschmeyer family has lived in Bruderheim for five generations.
