The scene has been cleared.

Earlier in the day, RCMP reported that a call was received at 1:57 P.M. on July 2 for a single-vehicle collision just south of the Balzac traffic circle.

"It was a report of a truck, nose-down in the water in the ditch," RCMP stated.

No injuries were reported. The RCMP noted that the motorists may be intermittently stopped or re-routed due to tow trucks on the scene.

"Traffic was able to go through the traffic circle and west with a small detour," RCMP said.

The RCMP noted that the heavy police presence that motorists may have witnessed was due to an unrelated event in Calgary. Calgary Police Service issued a statement saying that they responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 100 block of Bermuda Drive N.W. earlier in the afternoon. A Calgary firefighter who had been on the scene was injured when the vehicle fleeing the scene struck him.

Calgary police stated that HAWCS (Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety) was deployed to locate and monitor the vehicle from a safe distance. After locating the vehicle, officers safely took the suspect into custody. Investigators have also confirmed the vehicle was stolen. However, Discover Airdrie can't independently confirm whether this incident is in fact the one that the RCMP mentioned.
