More childcare spaces will soon be available in Alberta.
The Alberta-Canada Early Learning and Child Care agreement signed with the federal government in Nov. 2021 aims to provide $10/day childcare for parents by 2025/2026.
As part of the agreement, the provincial government has a target to create 42,500 additional spaces in non-profit child-care programs by the end of 2026. This year, Alberta has committed to creating 10,000 of these new spaces.
“Affordable, high-quality child care is an important part of our economic recovery,” said Matt Jones, minister of children’s services.
“We’re working with provincial partners, communities and child-care operators to create new child-care spaces across the province, especially in rural and remote areas.”
Applications are now being accepted for the $50 million in funding available to non-profit facilities to create or provide licensed childcare services, with a focus on building spaces in places with limited, no licensed care or with high demand.
Funding is provided through the $3.8-billion childcare deal with the federal government. Applications can be made through the Alberta Purchasing Connection website.
