This week of July 10th through to the 16th has been declared Parks Week by the government of Saskatchewan in conjunction with Canada's Park's Day on July 16th. 

Danielle Lingelbach, Manager of Visitor Experiences and Public Programming with Saskatchewan Parks provides some details behind the purpose of the week. 

"Aligning with Canada's Park Day is celebrated on Saturday, July 16th. So the purpose of that is just to encourage families to connect to nature through fun and educational family-oriented programs and events throughout various parks in the province for this week."

Included in these events are theme weeks as Lingelbach explains. 


"Sask Landing we have old as dinosaurs. So some specific programming that's happening for that we have a dinosaur discovery table at the Sage Brush Amphitheatre at 4 pm. At 730pm we have a T-Rex Discovery Center presentation at the amphitheater and that's all happening on the 16th for Parks day."

Throughout the week Sask Landing will have wacky water games and Sask Park Survivor. In Cypress Hills on Park's Day, there will be a snail's and cat tails program at the visitors center at 4 pm and from 7:30-9:30 pm there will be a ladder ball tournament located on the visitor center lawn. At 9 pm visitors can create their own glow-in-the-dark firework on the visitor center lawn and at 10:30 pm a firework show will take place. 

Cypress Hills will also have various events such as the Haunted Hike, Rangers Of The Night, Evening Embers, and Sask Park Survivor events. 

Douglas Provincial Park will have a choose your own adventure theme happening on July 16th and throughout the day there will be a park-wide treasure hunt being held at the beach picnic shelter at 10 am. At 1 pm a sneak and snap activity will be taking place along with geocaching at 4 pm. 

Families and Groups can also pick up a Discovery Pack at any Park Visitor Center which includes games and activities in order to help explore each park and engage in learning about particular themes. Recreational Discovery Packs are also available which include games such as spike ball, ladder ball, and disc golf.
