Ashley Rosenow has donated a custom mural to the hospice wing at the Rivercrest Care Centre in Fort Saskatchewan.
Rosenow, the owner of the design company Illustrious Interiors, was contacted by The Heartland Community Hospice Foundation to do the mural prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hospice foundation decided to go with a landscape image related to Fort Saskatchewan.
“They were hoping to have something that was really peaceful looking,” said Rosenow.
Due to restrictions, she just finished the piece on June 22.
“For me I feel like that kind of colour palette is a peaceful colour palette. Especially in a hospice environment you want a mural that seems more calming.”
Hospice care is in place for patients who are living their last moments — it is intended to make their situation as comfortable as possible.
“My Baba [grandma] was actually supposed to be going to the Fort Sask hospice as well. This was just over Christmas time so, it did kind of touch a little bit different the further that we were going into this project.”
Illustrious Interiors is working with the City of Fort Saskatchewan to try and bring a mural walk to the downtown core. These paintings will be put up on the side of buildings to try and draw more visitors to the area.
The local business has been operating in the area for about five years.
