The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP say a missing paddleboarder's body has been recovered.

According to a release, Parks Canada, along with their cadaver dog and a provincial dive team, recovered the body of a missing man from Astotin Lake in Elk Island National Park.

The 42-year-old went missing on Saturday (July 23), when he was paddleboarding with another person and they lost sight of each other.

"Parks Canada is deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our hearts are with the family and friends of the individual," added Parks Canada in a statement about the situation.

"Visitor safety is a top priority for Parks Canada. Parks Canada strongly recommends that a certified personal flotation device (PFD) be used when recreating on any water body."

The area closure is expected to be lifted later today. The website that will reflect the re-opening can be found here.
