We’re in for a mixed bag of weather this August Long Weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says some precipitation is expected to move through the area on Friday (July 29) and provide a little bit of relief from the heat, according to meteorologist Jesse Wagar.
“We’re likely to see showers and thunderstorms start moving through the area beginning late in the day on Friday and continuing throughout the long weekend. Not a big washout or anything, but sort of sporadic showers and thunderstorms,” Wagar said.
Friday’s high of 31 C will be the hottest as we head into the weekend, followed by 27 C on Saturday and 29 on Sunday. On Heritage Day Monday, expect to see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 26 C.
Lows are expected to hover between 15-18 C, which is when we can expect to see much of the forecasted rain.
“It’s not expected to be a total washout, rainy type weekend, but [instead] that off-and-on showers and thunderstorms where we get a little bit of rain that moves on and then it gets nice and sunny again, and then maybe another one moves through.”
Wagar added the forecast, while slightly above average, is pretty typical for this time of year as July is the hottest month in the region.
She cautions anyone looking to enjoy the warm weather to take precautions to avoid heat illnesses, such as staying hydrated and taking breaks from the heat.
