Will the City of Fort Saskatchewan ever consider allowing alcohol in public parks?
Categories

Despite some surrounding areas allowing liquor consumption in public parks, Fort Saskatchewan currently has no plans to join the list.

“Council has not formally discussed having liquor available in parks,” said city councillor Lisa Makin.

Strathcona County continues to expand its list of parks where consumption is allowed. This summer, the county outlined designated picnic tables to allow alcohol in five different parks.

“We are aware that neighbouring municipalities have brought this type of policy into place. It’s definitely something that our municipality can look at. It’s just not something that has been brought forward as a priority at this time.”

According to Makin, the idea isn’t off the table entirely, and it can be discussed if there is interest from the public.

“City council is always looking for feedback from residents.”

Residents can bring forward ideas to city council through the City of Fort Saskatchewan website.
