A police chase through the area has resulted in a long list of charges for a Grande Prairie man.
On Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 2), Fort Saskatchewan RCMP attempted to pull over a pickup truck on 99 Avenue and 104 Street that had no license plate attached. When police tried to stop the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed.
The truck was followed onto a rural property on Old Fort Trail in Sturgeon County, where the man ditched the truck and stole a small car. Mounties say the driver intentionally swerved towards two officers attempting to arrest him on foot, narrowly missing them before taking off again.
Police continued following the vehicle until the driver lost control and stopped in the ditch near Range Road 223 and Township Road 532 in Strathcona County. He tried to flee on foot but was located in a field and arrested.
As a result, 38-year-old Michael Linton, a resident of Grande Prairie, has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Flight from a peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited (x2)
- Possession of break-in tools
- Assault on a police officer with a weapon (x2)
- Failing to comply with an undertaking
- Failing to comply with a Release Order (x10)
- Two charges under the Traffic Safety Act
Following a bail hearing, Linton was remanded into custody, awaiting his first court appearance.
