Update: Portion of Highway 28 closed due to serious collision

A traffic collision is causing delays on an area highway.  

Highway 28 between Highway 37 and Sturgeon Road was closed Monday (Aug. 22) morning due to a collision. Reports of the crash came in at around 8:30 a.m. 

Serious Collision North of #yeg just south of the intersection of Highways 28 and 37, is closed due to a collision involving a semi, gravel truck and pick up truck. Traffic being re-routed onto Hwy 28. Avoid the area if possible #yegtraffic

Police say a northbound pickup truck crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a gravel truck; a semi-truck was side-swiped as a result of the collision. A 73-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance. 

The highway has since reopened.
