An attraction in Sturgeon County has been ordered to halt some of its operations.
Last Wednesday (Aug. 17), Sturgeon County notified Prairie Gardens and Adventure Farm that a stop order issued last October remains in full force due to non-compliance issues.
A statement from Sturgeon County says the notice was delivered as a result of "ongoing" and "significant" public safety concerns, as well as a failure to comply with submission deadlines, occupancy limits during certain hours, and parking, traffic, and access improvements requirements.
"This means, effective immediately, Prairie Gardens is no longer able to continue Intensive Agricultural Operations, including greenhouse, u-pick, market gardens, as well as Agritourism Operations including the corn maze, hayrides, and other small-scale events, until further notice," stated the county.
As of Aug. 17, restrictions to Prairie Gardens operations include:
- Maximum 100 visitors per day
- Operating hours are limited to 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- All activities to take place on-site, including parking.
- No pedestrian activity on roadways surrounding the area to the site.
- No events are permitted, including, but not limited to, weddings, ceremonies, retreats, parties, corporate functions, concerts, trade shows, markets, and farm-to-table dinners.
"Sturgeon County recognizes the popularity of Prairie Gardens for residents and visitors to the community. The decision to enforce the stop order was difficult, but our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public."
This stop order will not hamper Prairie Gardens' ability to cultivate crops and livestock since this is permitted and unrelated to the restrictions. Visitors and sales can continue as long as they are on the property and within the daily limit of 100 visitors.
