There was a widespread power outage Thursday night after a crop duster clipped a hydro line near Ste. Agathe.

Manitoba Hydro has confirmed that the plane damaged a 66 kilovolt line shortly after 7 pm.

As a result, approximately 2,000 customers were without power, stretching from about Glenlea down to St. Jean.

Two spans of damaged line had to be restored.

All customers had hydro again by 9:30 pm.

St. Pierre RCMP was notified of the incident at approximately 7:40 pm. Police say the mishap caused a small grass fire.

According to RCMP, the yellow plane kept flying east and did not crash or land nearby. The matter remains under investigation to attempt to identify the plane and pilot.
