An attraction in Sturgeon County has temporarily closed after it was ordered to halt some of its operations.

In a post to social media on Thursday (Aug. 25), Prairie Gardens and Adventure Farm wrote it would close until Sept. 6 while it worked to "resolve the matter."

"Due to new Sturgeon County regulations, we can only allow 100 people per day at our farm for small-scale consumer visits," wrote the farm. "This is unsustainable for our small farm."

Last Wednesday, Sturgeon County notified Prairie Gardens that a stop order issued last October remains in full force due to non-compliance issues.

According to Sturgeon County, the notice was sent out because of "ongoing" and "significant" public safety concerns, as well as a failure to comply with deadlines, occupancy limits during certain hours, and parking, traffic, and accessibility improvements.

In addition to the 100-visitor limit, the county has informed Prairie Gardens that it would be unable to continue u-pick and its agritourism activities, such as the corn maze, hayrides, and other small-scale events, until further notice.

"It's the first time in 38 years we have been closed at fall harvest time – thank you for supporting our very local farm; we need your care and support now more than ever."

The stop order does not affect Prairie Gardens' ability to grow crops and raise livestock. Visitors and sales can continue so long as they're on the property and within the daily limit of 100 visitors.

"Sturgeon County recognizes the popularity of Prairie Gardens for residents and visitors to the community. The decision to enforce the stop order was difficult, but our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public," Sturgeon County said in a statement.
