Repairs to the Highway 15 pedestrian bridge in Fort Saskatchewan may take longer than initially anticipated.

According to city officials, the timeline initially announced for the bridges' reopening did not account for the curing time on the repair. Weather permitting, the bridge will reopen in four to six weeks after repairs begin on Sept. 6.

The bridge has been closed since a vehicle carrying a large load hit the structure on July 21, causing damage. The driver has since been located, but no charges have been laid.

As the city's engineering consultant recommended, the bridge will remain closed until repairs are completed. While the repairs are being made, traffic will be restricted to a single northbound lane.

During the school year, Rudolph Hennig Junior High School students use the walkway as a main route to and from the school.
