"It is awesome to see the work done," said Mayor Harder

Progress is being made on some new pathways, and street overlay and patching projects in Winkler.

"It is awesome to see all this work done. It has gone basically without a hitch, and we're grateful for the contractors who are there to do the work for us," noted Mayor Harder.

Some of the companies doing the work are from outside of the City. One, noted Harder, is Bayview Construction based out of Oak Bluff.

"They actually said, 'we want to come back to Winkler. The people here are so nice'," he said.

Harder also singled out the work of JRoss Construction & Landscaping which is wrapping up street patching in the city.

"What I've appreciated about their work is, if you notice this year, the patching is fairly smooth. It's done very well."

Proposals coming in for Winkler's new wastewater treatment plant

Work continues to redesign a proposed wastewater treatment plant for the City of Winkler.

The project went to tender late last winter but was scrapped after the numbers came back substantially higher than the $48-million that had been approved and secured.

Mayor Martin Harder explains, Stantec is the firm overseeing the revised process.

"They have proposals from a variety, I think there's eight or ten different companies putting proposals in, so that's a good sign. They are going to be reviewing those proposals over the next month or two."

The hope, according to Harder, is that a selection will be made by year-end.
