Drain and ditch clearing begins in Rhineland

Some extra equipment has been brought in to help clear snow from drains and ditches this spring in the Municipality of Rhineland. 
    
Reeve Don Wiebe explained, the Municipality has rented a Crawler with a v-plow for the season. 

"After last year's series of critical Colorado Lows, we realized how important it is that municipal and provincial drains are opened in a timely fashion. This helps to mitigate overland flooding," he added. 

Anyone with concerns is asked to contact the municipal office.

Water management, gun control and the coming provincial election are on the mind of Borderland's MLA heading into the year

Water management and availability, Federal gun control legislation and the upcoming provincial election... all things Borderland MLA Josh Guenter will be thinking about in the coming weeks and months of 2023.

While looking back at 2022, he pointed to last year's flooding across the constituency, and other water management and availability concerns, as issues he will continue to work on in 2023.

By-election to be held to fill vacant Plum Coulee LUD Committee seat

Municipality of Rhineland Council has decided to hold a by-election to fill the empty seat on the LUD of Plum Coulee committee. After the October municipal election, two of the three positions were filled, with Justina Hamm and Kyle Wiebe taking on those roles.

Reeve Don Wiebe says, after the election, there has been interest in the vacant seat from a handful of individuals, so council felt, in fairness to all of them, giving the community the opportunity to choose was the best option.
