Wildfires lead to special air quality statement for our area Sunday.
Categories

Smoke is drifting into central Alberta, leaving the sky hazy and prompting Environment Canada to issue a special air quality statement.

The weather agency has put the advisory in place for communities such as Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Bruderheim, Lamont, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Redwater and Morinville.

The statement was issued this morning (Sept. 4).

“Wildfire smoke is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility at times, due to elevated values of fine particulate matter. Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour,” Environment Canada said.

Those with sensitivities should monitor their time outside.
