After a long and courageous effort, Frank lost his battle with cancer on August 25, 2022 eight days shy of his 82nd birthday. We are sad to see him go, yet so relieved he is now resting in peace. We would like to extend our gratitude to the extensive team of carers from the Meadows and doctors that supported Frank with his 'end of life' journey. Frank was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, the 5th of 6 children. He attended the Marx School, a small country school just up the hill from the family farm in between the communities of McMahon and Braddock. Born into farming, Frank and his wife Carol purchased the family farm upon his fathers passing in 1970. He was a hard worker and successful farmer who experimented in a diversity of crops and animal husbandry such as cattle, poultry, hogs, and fish. Frank had the skills of a butcher, heavy duty mechanic, machinist, carpenter, plumber, electrician and even a veterinarian. He was known to sew himself up on occasion, Frank could fix anything. In his youth he worked as a butcher for Holmes Meats and the oil rigs in northern Saskatchewan and Alberta. He continued his own fathers interest in 'Rainbow Trout' farming selling fingerlings to local farmers who stocked their own dug outs and reservoirs. He sold fresh fish directly to community grocery stores and restaurants. The 'Baumann Reservoir' still exists today and is provincially stocked for recreational fishing south west of Swift Current. Frank was actively engaged in his community the 'RM of Coulee,' elected several times to the council. The family was socially engaged in the community of Burnham with 4H, sports days, dances, New Years Eve celebrations and Christmas concerts. He retired from farming in 1995, keeping busy in retirement, investing and managing rental properties. Family holiday gatherings, ski trips, reunions, winters in Arizona, camping, fishing, hunting, morning coffee with friends, playing cards, and sudoku were things he enjoyed the most. He made several trips to Australia, along the way exploring Fiji, Hawaii and New Zealand, eventually landing in Perth, WA, visiting family there. Adventuring up and down the coast lines, driving across the 'Nullarbor Plain' from Perth to Sydney. Highlights of these trips were, enjoying the diversity of nature and the varied landscapes. Urban environments did not appeal to Frank. A rural setting, home, family and friends were his happiest places to be, topped off with a sudoku book in his hands. Despite his preference for the comforts of home, he did travel, joining his siblings on several cruises, through the Panama Canal, the Mediterranean, and the West Coast of BC up to Alaska. With his family he traveled throughout Canada to Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia. He also made it to Mexico and Costa Rica. Known at social events as a fabulous dancer, Frank had a particular flare and ability to lead and navigate the dance floor. Although quiet and introverted, Frank never held back telling his family how much he loved them. As a man of few words...his actions spoke louder than. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered as a kind, honest, and generous man, devoted to his family and friends.
