As of Friday, the city will be looking a little greener thanks to the 11th annual GoGreen event put together by Stark & Marsh, The City of Swift Current, and Innovation Credit Union.

Over the years the beautification project has contributed over 2,700 trees and shrubs to the community.

Elden Moberg, CEO of Stark and Marsh says they are excited to welcome back the volunteer aspect this year.

"We actually can bring volunteers back into the mix this year which is really good. Last year it was just Innovation and Stark & Marsh staff that participated. This year we are going to get everybody back and I think we will be back in that 100 plus to 120 which is usually where we have been for volunteers. So excited to be able to get back on that front."

The beautification initiative will be focusing on roughly 13 different projects around the city as Michael Newell from the city explains.

"So this year we have roughly 13 sites. We will be working in Memorial Park, the new Kiwanis bike course down by Riverdene Park, the dog park, the Highland Coulee mountain bike course, the Battleford Trail intersection, Ashley Park, Douglas Drive, and the Chinook Parkway. Some of our past Go Green sites were going to do some garbage clean-up and were going to clean up some of the flower beds at Riverdene and Kiwanis Park."

CEO of Innovation Credit Union, Daniel Johnson says they have been volunteering in some form or fashion since 2015. He adds that it isn't just a financial commitment as seeing their volunteers and volunteers from various businesses out working around the city is an exciting time.

As part of Friday's event, lunch will also be held at noon at Market Square with entertainment provided by the band Bakersfield. Whether residents are participating in the initiative or not everyone is welcome to attend the lunch with proceeds from the meal going towards the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center.

In terms of how projects are selected to be a part of the initiative, Newell says that they go around the city and look at previous sites as well as obtain information and input from members of the public regarding different sites in the city which may require some TLC.

Those individuals or organizations wishing to get involved and volunteer can do so by contacting the Stark & Marsh office.

Volunteers will be asked to register here for all GoGreen shifts which take place in the morning from 9:00am-12:00pm and from 1:00-4:00pm in the afternoon.
