The Swift Current Broncos announced today they have signed 2007-born goaltender Berney Weston to a Standard Player Agreement. He was selected with the 74th overall pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
“As an organization, from top to bottom, we are thrilled to sign Berney,” said Broncos general manager Chad Leslie. “He had an outstanding season last year and carried that over from rookie camp to main camp. To have another local player earn this opportunity means a lot to our group.”
Weston, from Gull Lake, is no stranger to wearing Broncos colours as he suited up for the U15 Swift Current Broncos during the 2021-22 season, appearing in 17 games with a 12-4 record, 2.66 goals against average and .922 save percentage.
He then played in all 10 playoff games for the U15 Broncos as they reached the SAAHL championship, posting a 6-4 record with a 2.63 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
Weston is the fifth member of the Broncos 2022 draft class to sign with the team, joining Peyton Kettles, Jace McFaul, Parker Rondeau and Ty Coupland. He will be in the lineup Tuesday night when the Broncos travel to Estevan to face the Regina Pats.
