A Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP released a statement this morning regarding the ongoing investigation on James Smith Cree Nation and in Weldon Saskatchewan.
In the press release, Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore states that they did not know and still do not know the cause of death for Myles Sanderson and says that to speculate would be irresponsible and undermine the independent investigation being conducted by Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team.
Blackmore adds that she appreciates that there are still unanswered questions and that they are fully committed to providing a detailed timeline once investigators have it completed and says that their first priority remains sharing the information with the victim's families prior to the general public.
She says that the Major Crime Unit continues to work to put the pieces together so that they can provide further information.
Blackmore herself had the opportunity to visit James Smith Cree Nation last week. She adds that the impact on the community cannot be understated and says that she was amazed at the resiliency, compassion, and generosity that she observed from the residents.
In addition, Blackmore thanked the members of the public and those in the communities of James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon adding that their strength is admirable and the information provided has been extremely helpful.
