World-renowned comedian and actor Donovan Workun is performing in Fort Saskatchewan this weekend.

A Night of Comedy is an outdoor event at 100 Avenue and 102 Street hosted by the Fort Saskatchewan Downtown Business Council. Beer gardens, entertainment, and food from local restaurants will be there on Saturday (Sept. 24) starting at 4 p.m.

Workun will be performing with his comedy group Atomic Improv at 7 p.m., followed afterwards by local band Ham Sandwiches.

Workun started improv learning theatre in the early 80s while he was in junior high school in Edmonton.

"I started Atomic Improv in 1990 and started touring. We did colleges and nightclubs and bars and stuff, anywhere you would hire and standup comedian. So we had to learn to be funny and fast."

Atomic Improv is known for their quick wit and light-hearted approach to improvisation. Their skill in comedy has garnered them appearances on Just for Laughs, opening for acts such as David Spade and Amy Schumer, and starring in CBC's Radio’s The Irrelevant Show.

Workun has also hosted the red carpet at the Juno Awards and has won the Alberta Motion Picture Industry Awards several times.

"I've done a little bit of everything, so its hard for me to even remember all the gigs I've done. If there's a gig, I've done it."

Workun has even been to Fort Saskatchewan before, recording a few episodes of The Irrelevant Show at the Dow Centennial Centre.

"I think one of the highlights will be coming to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta," Workun laughed.
