A new Manager has been hired for the Altona Community Memorial Health Centre, filling a vacancy left by Kevin Hamilton in August.

Neelam Borrison has accepted the permanent position, and comes to the facility with over 20 years of leadership experience as Nurse Manager and Director of Care in various facilities in Ontario. Recently, she also served as Clinical Specialist for the Red Cross.

"She brings a wealth of nursing background as well as leadership background, which we're pleased to have, so that she can support the site as well as the community from acute care perspectives," said Mona Spencer, Director of Acute Community Hospitals for Southern Health-Sante Sud.

According to the health authority, Borrison has developed solid management skills across many health care settings that include acute care, long term care, inpatient, outpatient and community nursing.

In her new role at Altona's hospital, she will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of staff, and work with the physicians and the community to resume emergency department services.

"That is something the community has been looking forward to so, October 31st the plan is to resume our E-D services to twelve hours a day. Once that is in place, then we will be able to look at how do we grow from there?" noted Spencer.

Borrison starts her new job on October 5th.
