A new scam call has hit the area.
Categories

Strathcona County RCMP is warning the public of a rise in scam calls.

The specific scam, which has been reported 13 times in the area recently, involves scammers calling elderly victims and convincing them that their grandchild has been arrested and that they need to pay for their bail.

Most times the scammer would ask for $6000 or more and would then send a courier to collect or ask the victim to send the money to a bank account.

RCMP would like to remind people that bail money can only be paid at a police station in person, or at a courthouse. If you are ever asked to pay bail by sending money to a bank account or to meet a courier, you should not pay it and contact a local police department.

If you have any information regarding this scam, you are asked to contact Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741
