It will be a new experience for some local newcomers when they take to the ice with the Swift Current Broncos next week.

Community Connections with the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center, Rebecca Anderson provides details on this exciting opportunity.

We have a skate with the Broncos happening next Wednesday. This is an opportunity for anyone whether they have skated before or not to come and meet the Bronco players, try out skating on the ice, and skate with the team.

Anderson adds that clients will also be attending the Bronco game next Friday; for many of them, this will be their first time attending a hockey game.

Both of these events are open to all clients of the Welcome Center and any clients interested in attending can contact the Center about registering.

Anderson adds that the community can help by donating used skating equipment.

I know that this is the time of year when a lot of parents have to get new skates because kids have outgrown them and there is not an option in the community anymore to be able to get those used skates traded in. So if anyone has any skates, helmets that kind of winter activity supplies they can drop them off at the Newcomer Welcome Center.

Donations should be dropped off before Wednesday and the Welcome Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-5:00 pm but will be closed Monday for Thanksgiving.

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center also continually accepts donations of used furniture and household items as well as winter items such as clothing which will soon be in demand.
