Nate Goodbrandson scored his first career MJHL hat trick as the Steinbach Pistons rolled through the Dauphin Kings 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Coming off their first loss of the season to Dauphin on Friday, the Pistons came out with intensity, driving the play through much of the early part of the first period.
Steinbach would get on the board first as a point shot from Hugo Larkin went intentionally wide, banked off the end boards, and came out in front to the waiting stick of Hunter Degelman who buried his first of the season. Jamie Fuchs picked up a helper as well on the 1-0 goal.
For Larkin and Fuchs, it was their first career MJHL points.
There would be many more firsts before the game was through.
After the Degelman goal, Steinbach continued to push and found the back of the net again as Leo Chambers took a sweet feed from Ian Amsbaugh and cashed in his 4th of the year. Nick Mikan also picked up a helper.
Nate Goodbrandson would extend the lead to 3-0 on a power play as the 19-year-old took a pass from Ty Paisley and scored his third of the year. Travis Hensrud also collected an assist.
The second period saw Goodbrandson get on the board for a second time as he knocked home a loose puck in the crease to increase the lead to 4-0. Neo Kiemeney, who had a great game in all three zones was credited with one assist while Fuchs added his second point of the day.
Just a couple minutes later, while on another power play, Goodbrandson would cap off the natural hat trick as he wired a wrister home for his fifth of the year. Davis Fry and Warren Clark had the assists on the 5-0 goal.
Ty Paisley got into the scoring act as the dynamic forward earned a penalty shot and made no mistake as he scored a beautiful goal, top shelf for his sixth of the campaign, and expanded the Pistons' lead to 6-0.
Dauphin would get on the board, finally solving Dominik Wasik as a point shot was deflected up into the net to cut the lead to 6-1 after two periods.
In the third, 20-year-old Daniel O'Neill scored his first MJHL goal as the big forward snapped off a beauty shot that went top shelf to make it a 7-1. Rookie Brett Kaiser picked up an assist, his first MJHL point.
Fry scored just a couple of minutes later to make it an 8-1. Fry's eighth of the year, the final goal of the night, was assisted by his linemates Paisley and Hensrud.
Emotions ran hot throughout most of the game and they finally boiled over late as Degelman dropped the gloves with Kings defender Aidan Brook. Degelman got some good shots in and both players were shown the gate, getting fighting majors.
Dominik Wasik collected his third win of the year making an impressive 36 saves.
Steinbach's power play finished 2-5 while the penalty kill was a strong 5-6.
