The Niverville Nighthawks picked up their third straight win Sunday night after they stormed past the Freeze 6-3.
The two teams combined for a total of 98 shots on goal with the Nighthawks tallying 61 of those. Keegan Gordon made a number of spectacular saves for the Freeze, especially during the second period where he saw 26 shots, allowing 2 goals but kept his team within striking distance.
Winnipeg got within 1 goal in the 3rd period (4-3) on a PP marker from Nathan Lenoski. The goal came at the 8:20 mark and it looked as though the Freeze were going to tie things up after some timely pressure. However, Josh Paulhus potted 2 empty-net goals in the span of 30 seconds and helped seal the victory for the Nighthawks.
Brendan Kerr scored twice for Niverville, (one of which was the eventual game-winner) to go along with an assist for 3 points on the night. Paulhus stayed hot with 3 points of his own (2g, 1a), while Zak Kennet and Carter Spirig also scored goals for Niverville.
Scott Thompson gets the win in the net as he stopped 34 out of the 37 shots he faced.
Niverville levels their record at 4 wins and 4 losses on the year while the Freeze fall to 1-6.
The Nighthawks are home next Friday (Oct 14) when they will take on the Virden Oil Caps. Game time is 7:30 pm.
