On October 20, 1931, Elvina Doreen was born on the family farm at Aneroid, Saskatchewan, to Peter and Elva Gammie. She grew up with her only sibling, Dorothy. She attended Quimper School. Elvina worked in Aneroid in the local restaurant and then the Royal Bank. She married Richard Finlay of Vanguard, Saskatchewan, and together they raised their two daughters, Gale and Sharon. Elvina returned to school in 1973 and obtained her hair dressing certificate. After Richard’s death, she worked at Chez Nous in Moose Jaw for 20 years.

Elvina was always a hard worker. She gardened and canned, drove the grain truck, took meals to the field, and maintained the family home. Elvina loved to tell stories and jokes and always enjoyed a good laugh. She loved her family dearly and would do anything for them.

Elvina retired in Moose Jaw, sold the farm at Vanguard, and took up residence at Timothy Eaton’s Gardens, and later moved to The Williston in Regina. She enjoyed dancing and met her dear friend and dance partner, Robert Hayward. Together they participated in dance competitions and brought home several medals.

She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Elva Gammie; her sister, Dorothy Finlay, her husband, Richard Finlay, and her granddaughter, Dee Anne. Elvina is survived by her daughters: Gale (Bert) Gunness and Sharon (Kelly) Caswell. She has four grandsons: Douglas (Allison) Finlay, Dallas (Darci) Lowe, Scott (Tara) Caswell, and Ryan (Jolene) Caswell. Elvina was blessed with ten great grandchildren: Key-Lee Rook, Amber (Tyler) McKinley, Cheyenne (Jayden) Welsh, Paul Jacobs and Memphis Lowe, Penelope, Annelise and Joshua Caswell, and Ellis and Sutton Caswell. In addition, she has been blessed with three great, great grandchildren: Kaiya Rook, Paisley and Luca McKinlay. She is also survived by Dwain (Laurie) Finlay and Ron (Maryann) Smith as well as several other nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Elvina’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 2:00PM. Pastor John McCubbing will officiate.
