Local youth of all ages took to the Lyric Theatre stage last night to perform in the first Youth Talent Night of the season.
The evening was hosted by local music teacher Glenna Switzer who actively participated in the night where her students shined.
Switzer provides some history on the origin of the Youth Talent Night.
"We started Youth Talent Night just like the Open Stage and it started about maybe six or eight years ago now," she said. "It has been quite a while and a very rewarding experience that's for sure."
In total 21 youths performed everything from piano solos to singing acapella.
Switzer says that for years she entered her students in music festivals which she believes there is a place for. However, she details the benefits and opportunities that come along with this monthly event.
"I am a true believer that if kids and children want to sing, want to play, it shouldn't be a competition between kids," she said. "And they get to choose whatever songs they want and that is how they learn what kind of performer they want to be."
In addition, Switzer says students may try an Adele song or a Taylor Swift song and it is through this experience that they then can figure out what kind of singer or performer they want to be.
Be sure to check out next month's Youth Talent night hitting the Lyric stage on November 9th.
