Applications have opened for Fort Saskatchewan's newest affordable housing complex.

The process started on October 5 for Muriel Ross Abdurahman Court, the first affordable housing complex in Fort Saskatchewan.

Named after the first female mayor of Fort Saskatchewan, the 83-unit building is being constructed by the Heartland Housing Foundation and is expected to open early next year.

Twenty of the building's units will be built to serve the needs of adults living with disabilities.

An eligible applicant's total household income must be under these amounts:

  • Studio: $36,000/yr.
  • 1-Bedroom: $42,000/yr.
  • 2-Bedroom: $52,500/yr.
  • 3-Bedroom: $62,500/yr.

Other than the income requirements, any applicant who appears on Alberta's dangerous offender registry is not eligible for housing.

Here is how much the units will cost:

  • Studio (318 square feet): $635
  • One bedroom (641 square feet) $900
  • Two bedroom (965 square feet) $940
  • Three bedroom (1294 square feet) $995

Applications are reviewed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
