Alberta RCMP handed out over 2,500 tickets this Thanksgiving long weekend, but how many of those were in Fort Saskatchewan?

RCMP says that 18 tickets were handed out to speeders in Fort Saskatchewan. One driver was even caught with a suspended license and had their car impounded. However, not a single impaired driver was pulled over the entire long weekend.

In fact, between Fort Saskatchewan, Strathcona County, and Morinville, only a single person was charged with impaired driving.

Strathcona County only had a single speeding ticket handed out alongside the impaired driver.

Morinville was a bit busier with 92 vehicles pulled over. Fifty-four of these vehicles were handed violation tickets.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff, media relations officer with Alberta RCMP, says the number of tickets handed out varies from year to year.

"Keep in mind there's always going to be speeders as long as there's traffic. Our job is to keep those numbers as low as possible. Unfortunately, at times the number of stats compare to how much enforcement efforts happened at that exact moment."

Between Oct. 7 to 10, there were 1,328 speeding charges, 58 driving without a seatbelt, 65 distracted drivers, and 88 impaired drivers across the entire province.

There were no fatalities in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions over the long weekend.
