The City of Fort Saskatchewan has issued an official statement on Sunday's residential fire in Woodsmere Close.

Multiple townhouses were affected by the blaze with a few families losing their entire homes.

The incident started at around 4 a.m. and wasn't under control until about 9 a.m.

A few more details were released including that it appears that the fire started on the backside of the complex.

“There are always challenges with townhouses being how close they are together and how fast the fire spreads,” said Todd Martens, Fort Saskatchewan's fire chief.

According to the release, a crew of seven Fort Saskatchewan firefighters and four Strathcona County firefighters arrived on the scene to fight the fire.

The city confirmed that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

As of now, the cause of the fire is unknown, and an investigation is ongoing.

The city is urging people who are interested in helping out the affected people to donate through the Red Cross. To do so, you can call Red Cross directly at 1-800-418-1111 and tell them you are donating to "October 16, 2022, Fort Saskatchewan Fire Victims".
