The Salisbury Sabres are currently the second-best high school football team in the province, but that could change this weekend.
In perhaps the biggest game of the season, the Sabres will be taking on the Harry Ainley Titans, who sit at the top of the provincial rankings, at Emerald Hills Stadium this Friday (Oct. 21).
A win would leapfrog the Sabres over the Titans for best in the province.
Prepping for such a big game can be a challenge, but Sabres head coach Cam Fraser thinks he has the group in the right mindset.
"I think resilience [will be key]," said Fraser. "Make sure, if something bad happens during the game that we are able to respond quickly."
"You got to have a short memory when you play against a good team. They are going to score on us, and we just have to make sure we respond with good drives."
Salisbury is dressing a veteran-heavy roster this year, with over 20 players returning from the 2021 season. Fraser says those returning players remember the feeling of going up against Harry Ainley and are hungry to pull out a victory this weekend.
"They've been in this experience before," said Fraser. "They know how good Harry Ainley is and how we need to match their intensity and energy."
The Sabres have had a great season so far, going undefeated in their first five games. The Titans have also gone undefeated.
"Emerald Hills is going to be rocking on Friday night," concluded Fraser.
