The Elrose Wheatland Regional Library continues to stay busy. The library recently held their grand opening and the 55th anniversary, and head librarian Gwen Close was happy with the turnout.
“It was a tremendous success. We had way more than I envisioned coming, I think without thinking exact numbers, it would be easy to say we had 150 people here that evening. It was a great event.”
The library was also greeted with a special guest.
“We were so glad to have Kim Hebig, our director from Wheatland in Saskatoon come down and she took a look through the new location. She had her own little words of encouragement and praise for us that evening. So, it was great,” Close added.
Moving onto some current news at the library, there is some learning to crochet going on the next few Saturdays.
“We have a “learn to crochet” class going on. We had our first one last Saturday, October 15th, and we have three more coming out. So, October 22nd, 29th and November 5th, and that's a Saturday and it runs from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. So, anybody that wants to come out and learn how to crochet, or just enjoys crocheting and wants to visit with likeminded folks. They're welcome to do so,” Close said.
Close was quick to remind everyone that there are things to do for people of all ages. Not just books and a library.
“We are so much more than just books in a library. We've got puzzles out for adults to do. I've got Baker space kits. I even have a computer geared towards the three-to seven-year-old children, so it's not hooked up to the Internet. They don't have to worry about their children going on a site that they shouldn't be, and it's all about listening to a story being read. Or games that are age appropriate, that type of thing. We got lots going on, that's for sure.”
The library also had Halloween Storytime and Crafts last night, and all kinds of children came dressed up to have some fun. Another event coming up is Poetry Night at the Library on November 2.
