The Niverville CRRC has over 50 different programs running this fall

The Niverville Community Resource & Recreation Centre (CRRC) currently has over 50 different programs running this fall. They have programs for all ages, from infants to adults.

Some of the programs run more than once, so in reality, they have over 70 programs running this fall. The number of classes offered varies depending on the program.

Cassandra Falk, Camp and Recreation Programmer, says they host so many programs since they want to offer something for everyone.

“Not everyone is interested in the same thing, so it's nice to have a huge variety of options for everyone.”

With so many programs, they are very open to trying out less well-known activities. For example, Qigong.

“So we had instructors approach us this summer and they wanted to bring this new program to our community,” she says. “It was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine and it involves using exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit.”

She goes on to say the goal of Qigong is to maintain and improve health and well-being, and it is similar to Tai Chi.

Falk likes being able to have programs like Qigong that are a bit more of a niche and aren’t offered up anywhere nearby.

"It's those programs that bring in people from surrounding communities. Then you got a lot of people from outside of the community coming in and that's really cool to see.”

One thing she says goes unnoticed are their day camps during the HSD PD days.

They’ve been offering these day camps for the last two years, but they’re not as popular as they expected.

“I think it's a great opportunity for working parents to have that option for their children. And it's a fun day, they come and do activities all day."

She says the day camp is for ages 6 to 12.

Chantel Todd, Recreation Programmer and Campus Staff Manager, says that most of the youth programs are quite popular.

“I've had many parents thank us for providing lots of different sports opportunities for children and youth, and then on the other side of it I've had many parents thank us for providing the creative side of programs because their children aren't into sports.”

Todd says the nice thing about holding programs for all ages is that everyone in your household can be involved.

“I personally enjoy the adult fitness classes and the preschool programming, as it fits the needs of my family. I'm here all the time. I should almost live here!”

Falk adds on that they love their team and are very thankful for their staff whom they couldn’t run these programs without.

“We have a few core instructors that have been with us for many years. which we're really grateful for. And then more recently we've had instructors just approach us and they've asked to partner with us and that's been incredibly helpful in our ability to grow this past year.”
