The Bruderheim Agricultural Society has just turned 50 years old.
To celebrate, they're hosting an open house on Saturday (Nov. 5) at Walker School, an old school turned recreational centre. The anniversary starts at 1:00 p.m.
Sherry Cote, secretary-treasurer with the society, says they're using the anniversary to spread awareness of the society.
"A lot of people in our community don't realize we have a museum. We have it open now for all special events that happen in our community." Cote said.
The Bruderheim Agricultural Society was formed back in 1972 by members of the farming community to help create a place for recreation. One of their first projects was building the Karol Maschmeyer Arena with the help of grants and volunteers.
Some of their other achievements include building the Bruderheim Campgrounds and operating it for several years. They also built the AG grounds, which host races throughout the year.
Walker School, where the 50th anniversary is taking place, was purchased by the society and used as an office, as well as hosting the Bruderheim Lions Club, and Fort Saskatchewan Fish and Game's archery group.
Recently the society has been focusing on community gardens and trying to grow food for the food bank and people in need.
