In the early hours of Tuesday (Nov. 8) morning, a total lunar eclipse will take place in the skies above Fort Saskatchewan.

The Moon will pass through the earth's shadow giving it a red colour, commonly referred to as a 'Blood Moon'.

This will be the last total lunar eclipse for over two years, with the next eclipse expected to occur on March 14, 2025.

Residents of Alberta will be able to see the entire eclipse -- as long as the weather permits.

Here's the eclipse timeline for people in the region:

  • 2:09 a.m. partial eclipse begins
  • 3:16 a.m. total eclipse begins
  • 3:59 a.m. mid-eclipse
  • 4:42 a.m. total eclipse ends
  • 5:49 a.m. partial eclipse ends
