Bust out the mittens and get your skates sharpened, because a big event is coming to Gibbons this weekend.

Gibbons' annual Hometown Weekend takes place from Nov. 25 to Nov. 27 at several locations throughout the town.

Over three days residents can enjoy a variety of activities from pancake breakfasts to skating on the ice with Santa Claus himself.

Eric Paterson, recreation and youth coordinator with the town of Gibbons says that some of the new additions to the weekend include youth bingo.

"We're giving away some awesome prizes like a Nintendo Switch, Air Pods, and some other electronics."

After bingo, the kids are treated to a showing of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Hometown Weekend is finished off with their Parade of Lights, a nighttime parade featuring a series of floats adorned in multicoloured lights.

"The holidays are definitely a time where people like to check out the lights, so this is where people get to be creative and decorate their vehicles," Paterson said. "They really go all out."

Paterson says he expects to see a turnout of around a thousand people over the weekend.

You can find the full schedule for Hometown Weekend on the town of Gibbons' website.
