Swift Current was filled with holiday cheer this weekend when Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special appearance from the North Pole.

The visit took place at Cowtown on Saturday for the SPCA’s Santa Paws event and managed to raise over $1,000 for the local shelter, explained Joanne Schatkoski, development manager for the Swift Current SPCA.

“It was a great event, lots of people, lots of excitement,” she said. “Everybody went home with a little goodie bag and we raised $1125 for the SPCA in four hours. So, the people of Swift Current really came through again for us.”

All proceeds from the event go directly towards the animals and supplies for the Swift Current shelter.

Schatkoski added that each year, more people are coming out and enjoying the event.

“The dogs loved it, most of them, some didn't like it so much, but they did end up sitting and getting their pictures done,” she stated. “So, it was good for the family.”

In total, 61 cats and dogs, along with their human siblings, went to get their photo taken with Mr. And Mrs. Claus.
